Jeff Duncan is the newest addition to the KOXE broadcast booth for the 2023 Brownwood Lions football season, serving as the lead announcer with Scott McDaniel returning as analyst in the booth and Matthew McCrane joining Derrick Stuckly on the sidelines.

Duncan is taking over for Randy Turner, who served as play-by-play announcer for the Lions during the 2022 football campaign.

“Wow, what an honor to be the next play-by-play voice for Brownwood Lion football,” Duncan said. “I have enjoyed broadcasting Brownwood basketball and baseball and I am humbled to add football. I look forward to having Scott McDaniel in the booth with me again and Derrick Stuckly & Matthew McCrane on the sideline.”

Duncan has been the voice for Howard Payne University football, basketball and baseball since Dallas Huston’s retirement three years ago, and in the past has called De Leon Bearcat football and baseball games, as well as handling high school and college play-by-play duties in Oregon, Idaho, Colorado, South Dakota, and other parts of Texas.

“We jumped at the opportunity to add Jeff to our team last year and he did a great job with Brownwood baseball and basketball along with Scott (McDaniel),” said Mitchell Dillard, President of Brown County Broadcasting. “He is a professional broadcaster that loves sports and puts everything he has into it. I am confident that Jeff will do a great job for our station and the Brownwood Lions fans.

“I’m also excited to add Matt to the broadcast team. As a college and professional football player, as well as a former Brownwood Lion, he will be an asset on the sidelines with Derrick.”

Turner opted to relinquish his sports duties to focus on his additional responsibilities at KOXE.

“After much consideration, I made the decision to step away from the local sports broadcast booth on Friday nights for football and Tuesday and Friday nights during basketball and baseball seasons,” said Turner, the KOXE News Director and Chief Meteorologist. “In doing so I can concentrate on news, programming, morning show, weather and other duties for the station and continue to serve our listeners in those capacities.”

Brownwood Lions football broadcasts can be heard on KOXE 101.3 FM, KOXE.com or the KOXE app, available for free in your app store. The regular season for the Lions kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25 at Abilene Wylie. Check out the complete KOXE weekly and gameday football broadcast schedules HERE.

Brown County Broadcasting will be airing Brownwood Lions football for the 83rd consecutive year.
