Aniah Hines (12) recorded 13 kills, 3 aces and 1 block in three matches Saturday and Miranda Northcutt (7) added 8 kills, 3 aces, and 1 block for Brownwood (2-6), which plays its home at 6 p.m. Tuesday vs. San Angelo Central.

ABILENE – The Brownwood Lady Lions placed fourth in the silver bracket at the Abilene Bev Ball tournament, posting a 1-2 record Saturday for the second consecutive day.

The Lady Lions began the day with a two-set victory over San Angelo Lake View, were upended by Clyde in the bracket semifinals, then fell to Plainview in the third-place match.

“The girls played hard today,” said Lady Lions first-year head coach Cheyanne Lovelady. “We have several things to work on Monday in practice. I think we need some confidence, I’ve been pushing the girls hard these past two weeks and they are already showing so much improvement. We are making a lot of mistakes right now, but they’re being coachable and improving every day. I’m very proud of them and can’t wait to see how far they come.”

Standouts in Saturday action included Aniah Hines with 13 kills, 3 aces and 1 block; Aubrie Felux with 11 kills, 4 aces and 9 digs; Hannah Deen with 8 kills, 1 ace and 16 digs; Jaslin Jones with 2 kills and 3 aces; Miranda Northcutt with 8 kills, 3 aces and 1 block; Trinity Roberts with 1 kill and 1 block; Emma Ringer with 24 assists and 3 aces; Jeniffer Romero with 8 digs; Chloe Walls with 5 digs; Maddi Scott with 5 digs; Molly Oliver with 4 digs; and Icess Hall and Arieseli Hernandez with 5 assists apiece.

The Lady Lions (2-6) are back in action at 6 p.m. Tuesday as they play their first match at Warren Gym against Class 6A San Angelo Central.
