John Volaños, age 71 of Brownwood, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2023.

Graveside service with military honors for John are scheduled for 1:00 pm Thursday, August 10, 2023, at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

John was born December 30, 1951, in Pasadena, California, to Manuel Volaños and Angela Botello Volaños. He was raised in Covina, California and was a Boy Scout for many years.

After a long career in the United States Army, John retired in 2000 and moved to Brownwood. He enjoyed working with his hands and woodcarving. John was a gun enthusiast, a big John Wayne and Hop-a-long Cassidy fan. John was also a Harley Davidson enthusiast and was part of the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club. John loved hunting with his dogs, Jager and Angus. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brownwood.

John is survived by his children, John Volaños Jr. of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Elisha Volaños of Oregon; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren; his wife, Susan McFarland of Brownwood, and his brother, Rick Volaños and wife Kathy of Lubbock. John is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings Lidia, Irene, Erlinda, Angie, Margarita, Manuel Jr., and Anna.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to a favorite charity.
