Gerald L. Overturf, Sr.

Gerald L. Overturf, Sr., 85, of Bangs, Texas passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023. A graveside service will be held in the Bangs Cemetery, 10 AM, Saturday, July 22, 2023.

Gerald was born August 18, 1938 in Middleport, Ohio to Gerald James and Opal Marie Overturf. He attended West High School in Columbus, Ohio and joined the U.S. Marine Corp and was proud of serving his Country. While living in Columbus, he worked as an instructor in the martial art of Judo. Gerald moved to Bangs, Texas and served in the American Legion Post 308 for several years. He was a member of the First Baptist church in Bangs and worked for Kohler for many years. Gerald was a very opinionated man and once he set his mind to do something, it got done. He loved to go hunting and fishing and was very close to his family. He was very loving and always willing to help someone out of a jam.

Gerald is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Peters and husband Brad of Utica, Ohio; sister, Rita Barnes of Bangs; grandchildren, Jennifer Williams and wife Melissa of Pataskala, Ohio, Nick Risolio and wife Vicky of Newark, Ohio, Skyler Overturf of Columbus, Ohio & Freedom Overturf of Lima, Ohio; 1 great grandchild and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gerald was preceded in death by his son, Gerald L. Overturf Jr.; daughter, Theresa L. Large; and his parents, Gerald J. Overturf and Opal M. Wright.
