William Tweed McVean

William Tweed “Bill” McVean died on March 19, 2023 in El Paso, TX at the age of 73.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mildred Lynn McVean; children, Chris Sullivan and wife Juliane of Early, Melinda Keith and husband Wayne of Abilene, Tim Sullivan and wife Kimberly of Colorado Springs, CO; siblings, De-Ann Conn of Crowley, and Kent McVean of Everman; 7 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Doreen McVean and sister Vicki McVean Broyles.
Bill McVean was born on October 19, 1949 in Fort Worth, TX to Robert and Doreen McVean. He graduated from Everman High School in 1968. Afterwards, Bill began working for the State of Texas, serving as a DPS officer throughout the 1970s. He married Mildred Lynn in 1996 in Early, TX. The two later moved to Sierra Blanca where he worked as a reserve Deputy for Hudspeth County before retiring in 2020.
Bill was a licensed ham radio operator and often worked with the National Weather Service. He was passionate about living history and whenever possible participated in the annual reenactment of the battle of San Jacinto. He was an active and dedicated member of the Masons for 50 years, most recently serving as a member of the Fraternity Lodge 1111, the Brownwood Eastern Star, the Provost Guard of the Maskat Shrine of Wichita Falls and the El Maida Shrine of El Paso, and as the El Maida Potentate in 2016.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1 pm Saturday, July 15th at the El Maida Shrine, 6331 Alabama St, El Paso. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Shrine Hospitals at https://lovetotherescue.org or Camp Billy Gibbons at https://www.texastrailsbsa.com/.
