Truet Leon “T.L.” Steward, age 78, of Gouldbusk, died Tuesday June 27, 2023.

The family will host a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Family and friends are invited to a graveside funeral service at 9:00 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2023, at the Rockwood Cemetery Pavilion. Interment will follow in the Rockwood Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

T.L. was born September 5, 1944, in Santa Anna to George Truet Steward and Allie Estaleen Ferguson. He grew up in Voss and Mozelle and graduated from Mozelle High School in 1963. While attending San Angelo College he went to work for M. L. Leddy’s retiring in 2018 after 55 years of friendship. Known far and wide as a top boot salesman, custom grain harvester, auctioneer, and proudly served in the National Guard. T.L. rarely entered a café or public event anywhere in Texas or Mexico where someone did not know him …. and they all had a story to tell; stories where he had made their last encounter more fun or memorable, or both. T.L. would always greet you with a smile and a handshake. He was a friend to all and loved those friends and his family fiercely. He will be sorely missed. He lives on through each memory, but even more so because he trusted the Lord who created him and is yet there with his Savior.

Preceding T.L. in death are his parents, George and Estaleen Steward; two brothers, Bill and Don Steward; and two sisters, Maudie Etta Stephenson and Maureen Davidson Duncan.

He is survived by his children, James “J.D.” Steward of Gouldbusk, Robbin Hutto and husband Glyn of Eldorado, and Lauren Paige Clark and husband Jacob of Lubbock; three grandchildren, Davis Mason Hutto and wife Mackenzie of Navasota, Mason Elby Hutto of Eldorado and Max Glynn Clark of Lubbock; and one great-grandchild, Hallie James Hutto.

The family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be made to the Hords Creek Cowboy Church Celebrate Recovery, 3851 State Highway 153, Coleman, Texas 76834.

We invite you to share fond memories and words of comfort and condolence with the Steward family by signing the virtual guestbook on T.L.’s tribute page at www.stevensfuneralhome.com. Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the Steward family.

Pallbearers will be Danny Ferguson, Ricky Ferguson, Greg Ferguson, Mike Ferguson, Mike Steward, Reggie Trout, Ray Taylor, and Wilson Franklin.
