Thelma Long

Born Thelma Elois Hash on August 9,1921, in Whon, Texas. She passed away on June 15, 2023.

Services were held at Bangs Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.

Thelma grew up in Bangs and lived most of her remaining life in Brownwood. Thelma married Joe D. Bien at a young age and they had three children, two sons and a daughter. Later in life she married Charlie Long. She was twice widowed and lived alone for most of the rest of her life.

Thelma was called ‘ Granny’ by almost everyone after her first grandchild and was loved by all. At 85 years old, she used her shotgun to scare away a burglar trying to break into her house. After that she became known as “SHOTGUN GRANNY” to many who knew her. She devoted her life to her family and dearly loved her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her two sons Joe W. Bien and Jerry D. Bien: husbands, Joe D. Bien and Charlie Long; a granddaughter, Kimberley Bien; The entire Hash family: brothers – Howard and Thomas; her sisters Ina, Eddie and Elsie.

Thelma is survived by her daughter Carol Bieszak Nemecek, of Atlanta, Georgia; her grandchildren: Chris Page of Stuart , Florida, Sheri Smith of Wills Point, Jason Bien of Dallas, Terasa Filsoof of Atlanta, Georgia, Michael Bien of Gatesville, Phylecia Bien of Lindale, and Julie Ballard of Arlington; great-grandchildren: Josh Filsoof of New York, New York, Rachel Filsoof of Atlanta, Georgia, Kaden Bien of Dallas, Rylan Bien of Dallas, Jenaiah Hillis of Lindale, Shaiden Humphries of Brownwood, Shailey Humphries of Brownwood, Pace Box of Pecos and Adeline Box of Pecos.

Granny will be missed by all. Eternal rest grant to Thelma dear Lord and let perpetual life shine upon her.
