The team of (from left) Todd Brantley, Todd Roby, Jason Shanks and Michael Bingham won first place at HPU’s recent North Texas Alumni Golf Tournament.

The second annual Howard Payne University North Texas Alumni Golf Tournament was held on Monday, June 5, at Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine. Alumni and friends enjoyed a beautiful day of golf and an opportunity to network and connect with each other while raising money for student scholarships. The event was presented by Brasher & Co.

The first-place team included Todd Brantley, Todd Roby, Michael Bingham and Jason Shanks. Second-place honors went to Tim Brasher, Blake Brasher, Ryann Honea and Jim Honea. Tying for third place were the team of Wendell Olson, Jeff Lowe, Cody Hambrick and Stuart Deane and the team of Derek Frisch, Roger Oliver, Chandler Mints and Chris Ransbottom.

Randy Lewallyn, who chaired the event, expressed his appreciation to all who participated.

“We are grateful for the incredible response from alumni who participated in HPU’s North Texas Alumni Golf Tournament the past two years,” Lewallyn said. “When you combine a fantastic golf venue with friends coming together in support of HPU, it’s sure to be a meaningful and fun day. I’m so appreciative of the generosity of our sponsors and participants that make the event possible. Lastly, I’m thankful for the support and excellence of Dr. Cory Hines, our HPU president; Dr. Dale Meinecke, vice president for advancement; and Dr. Kalie Lowrie, assistant vice president for alumni relations – each of whom played a key role in the event’s success. The entire Office of Advancement team at Howard Payne contributed to making this a great experience. We’ve already begun planning the 2024 event, so stay tuned!”

Hole sponsors included First Baptist Church Burleson; GuideStone; Dr. Cory and Melinda Hines; HPU Alumni Association; iTeach Texas; Jacket Alums in Ministry (JAM); Jacket Century Club; RFS Sports; Rozell Ranching and Real Estate; The Timothy Center; VR Security Solutions; and WCA Construction.

Yellow Jacket sponsors included Rodney and Bobbette Bell; Nolyn Box; Farm Bureau Insurance; Randy and Allison Lewallyn; Lone Star Vision; Dr. Dale and Christy Meinecke; and NovaLex.

Plans are underway for the 2024 tournament. Alumni and friends can visit www.hputx.edu/golf for updates.
