At Tuesday’s meeting of the Brown County Water Improvement District #1 Board of Directors, a new attorney for the District was hired.  Chris Munson was appointed by the Board to the position of General Counsel.  Munson is a Brownwood native and is the Legal Counsel for the Landmark Life Insurance Company.  Munson replaces Bart Johnson Jr., who recently resigned the position.

The Board also granted a fireworks permit to Wild Duck Marina for an Independence Day celebration to be held on Saturday, July 1.

In the Citizens Presentations portion of the agenda, two persons addressed the Board with concerns on two different matters.  Holly Weatherby spoke about problems with turkey vultures in the Kirkland’s area near the dam.  The large birds have taken up residence near the dam, causing problems with District equipment and the safety of the water supply.  About a year ago the District obtained a depredation permit from the State of Texas to take actions designed to encourage the birds to relocate.  Weatherby said that those efforts have caused the birds to move over to the Kirkland area, causing problems for the residents and visitors.

Also addressing the Board was Tim Murray, who expressed concerns with the “wake boats” in Lake Brownwood.  The large wakes that those boats produce cause property damage to docks and are a safety hazard for swimmers, according to Murray.

The Board discussed both issues with Weatherby and Murray, but since neither item was on the agenda, but instead was included in the Citizens Presentations part of the meeting, no action was taken by the Board on either issue.
