Garland Reeves Neal, Sr., of Temple, Texas passed June 12, 2023, at the age of 89. He was born on May 23, 1934, in Anson, Texas.
He graduated from Williams High School.
Garland hired out with the Santa Fe Railroad in Brownwood, Texas in 1954. During his time at the railroad, he served as a dedicated union officer and strong leader of the United Transportation Union from which he retired as a General Chairman in 1996.
He was a life-long member of the Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford C. and Minnie Ann Proffitt Neal; sister Wanda Jewell Neal Beck, brother Harvey Glenn Neal and beloved wife, Margaret Ann Smith Neal.
He is survived by his brother, Danny Joe Neal; daughters Pamela Ann Neal and Tracy Lea Neal Hopkins and son Garland Reeves (Tiger) Neal, Jr.; six grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, and many, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Holland Baptist Church, 506 Dixie Dr, Holland, Texas on Friday, June 16th at 11:30 a.m. Visitation with the family will begin after the service in the Fellowship Hall, with coffee and desserts.
