The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will offer a two-part professional food manager certification training on July 11th and 12th and August 8th and 9th in Brownwood.

Training will be at the AgriLife Extension office in Brown County, 605 Fisk Ave, from 8:00 – 5:00.

The cost is $125, payable by check or money order, and includes training, materials and the ServSafe National Food Manager Certification Examination. Both dates must be attended in order to take the exam. The certification is valid anywhere in the state of Texas for five years.

To register, contact Courtney Parrott, AgriLife Extension Family and Community Health Agent for Brown County, at 325-646-0386. Participants should register as soon as possible as space is limited.

“Foodborne illnesses can be prevented by following simple food safety practices,” Parrott said. “This program is designed to not only prepare food service managers to pass the ServSafe exam but to leave with the education and understanding of what tools are needed for a safe work and food-handling environment.”

Certification exam preparation

The course will cover the following information in preparation for the certification exam:

  • Foodborne illnesses.
  • The safe handling of food.
  • Operation management.
  • Sanitation and food flow.
  • Hazard analysis control point.
