Sid Greer, 86, of Lampasas, Texas passed away at home on May 17, 2023.

Graveside services will be held at Zephyr Cemetery on Monday, May 22, 2023, at 10:30 am.

Sid was born on June 8, 1936, in Zephyr, Texas to Fred and Grace (Fisher) Greer.  He was one of five sons.  He graduated from Zephyr High School in 1954.  After graduation, Sid followed his oldest brother to New Mexico to work construction and later owning and operating a Standard/Chevron service station.  After returning to Texas in the mid-60s, he worked with Waldrop Construction in Brownwood and then began his career with TxDot retiring as Lampasas County Maintenance Supervisor in 1993.  Sid transferred to Lampasas in 1974 where he met many of his longtime friends.  He enjoyed 40 years on the same deer lease with several of these friends.  Sid enjoyed cooking and spending time with friends and family.  He looked forward to the annual Greer reunions at Lake Brownwood and spent many weekends competitively cooking BBQ.  He and his brother Tommy were a great team competing state-wide, winning several titles.

While at TxDot one of his proudest accomplishments was being nominated in 1984 for the Lady Bird Johnson Award for his efforts in seeding and the growth of wildflowers on Texas highway right-of-ways.  He had a love and great knowledge of all Texas wildflowers, but his favorite were bluebonnets.  Each year many people came to take family photos in the bluebonnets on his property.

Sid was a talented carpenter and woodworker and enjoyed making gifts for family and friends.  In later years he enjoyed keeping up with what his grandkids and their families were doing especially his great-grandkids talking to them via Facetime.  He looked forward to his weekly visits from neighbors and watching every western on TV.

He is survived by his son, Harold W. Greer, and wife Connie of Houston, Texas and daughter, Patti Mullins and husband Ricky of Lampasas, Texas; three grandchildren, Cody Mullins (LaRae) of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Shawna Mullins (Danielle) of Roswell, New Mexico and Britney Norrell (Tommy) of Cypress, Texas; great-grandchildren, Nolan and Grady Norrell and Layken Mullins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Fisher, Bill, Tommy, and Jimmy Greer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Zephyr Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 523, Zephyr, Texas 76890, or Bethel Baptist Church, 1800 County Road 286 N., Zephyr, Texas, 76890.

The family would also like to extend their gratitude to his caregivers and New Century Hospice.
