On Wednesday, a signing ceremony was held at Warren Gym for 10 Brownwood Lion and Lady Lion seniors who will continue their athletic and academic careers collegiately.

Fresh off a fourth-place finish in boys singles at the Region I-4A tennis tournament, the next stop for Brownwood Lion senior tennis standout Peter Le is Prairie View A&M University.

“Ever since I started playing in the seventh grade it’s been my passion. I’ve always worked hard on the court, after practice, and did everything I could to play at the next level. Now this dream of mine has officially come true,” Le said.

Le also aided the Brownwood High tennis team during the fall campaign to a third-place district finish and trip to the bi-district round of the playoffs.

As for how he wound up at Prairie View A&M, Le said, “I went on an unofficial visit and they had three team captains waiting on me in the parking lot. They brought me in and asked a lot of questions and it just felt like home.”

Brownwood High tennis head coach Crystal Blazek said of Le, “I’ve watched Peter play since he was a seventh grader. When he was in seventh grade I thought if he kept playing and doing what he can do, he can accomplish a lot in life. He is a great teammate and an exceptional young player that puts in the time not only in our classes and practices, he goes to every tournament and every camp he can. He went and got lessons right before the regional tournament, which shows he’s totally committed. He’s also committed to this school and the Lion program. He cares about every sport in this town, and he’s going to go off and do great things.”

As for what he will miss most about his playing days as a Brownwood Lion, Le said, “Coach Blazek and Coach (Dalton) Hutchins. They’ve done so much for me and they’re some of the best coaches in the state of Texas. They guided me to become a better person on and off the court.”
