The Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions have 18 opportunities to punch tickets for the UIL Class 4A state track and field championships Friday and Saturday at the Region I-4A meet at Lowrey Field in Lubbock.

Lady Lion freshman Hannah Deen leads the charge as she headed to regionals in five events as she won gold medals at the 5-4A/6-4A meet in the triple jump (34-11.25) and long jump (16-8.75). She also finished as the runner-up in the high jump (J5-2) and on the 4×400 relay along with Kate Tindol, Sidney Windham, and Braycee Lee, and came in fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (48.97).

Sparking the Lions at the area meet was Tyse Savage, who collected gold medals in all three events in which he competed – the 200 meters (21.97), the 4×100 relay (42.51) with Jordyn Nickerson, Jake Jetton, and Aaron Edmonds, and the 4×200 relay (1:29.22) with Nickerson, Daub, and Jetton.

Also earning area gold medals en route to Lubbock were Lee in the girls 400 meters (59.86) and Ike Hall in the boys triple jump (45-7.5).

Collecting silver medals in their respective events were Nickerson in the boys 100 meters (11.15), Windham in the girls 800 meters (2:21.92), Sam Kallman in the boys discus (139-3), and Jaslin Jones in the girls discus (112-6.5).

Advancing as area bronze medals were Tindol in the girls 200 meters (26.82), and Trent Loftin in the boys 110-meter hurdles (15.99), while moving on with fourth-place performances were Jetton in the boys 100 meters (11.21) and Kaylee Adkins in the girls 1600 meters (6:13.0).

Regional action begins with the field events Friday as the girls high jump, boys shot put and boys pole vault take place at 9 a.m. Beginning at 11 a.m. will be the girls triple jump and discus and boys triple jump.

Running events Friday include the 3200 meter finals at 10:30 a.m. followed by the preliminaries at 2:30 p.m. for the 4×100 relay, 100-meter hurdles, 110-meter hurdles, 100 meters, 4×200 relay, 400 meters, 300-meter hurdles, 200 meters, and the 4×400 relay.

On Saturday, field events resume at 9 a.m. with the girls shot put, girls pole vault and boys high jump. At 11 a.m., the girls long jump, boys long jump and boys discus will be contested.

Running finals start at 2:30 p.m. and will feature the 4×100 relay, 800 meters, 100-meter hurdles, 110-meter hurdles, 100 meters, 4×200 relay, 400 meters, 300-meter hurdles, 200 meters, 1600 meters, and the 4×400 relay.

The top two finishes in each event, and the best third-place performers from all four regions across the state, will advance to the UIL Class 4A track and field state championships Thursday, May 11 at Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.
