Iva Nell Evans

Iva Nell (Mulkey) Evans, age 86, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 25th surrounded by family.  Born October 2, 1936, in Denton, Texas she passed in Brownwood, Texas at her residence in Redstone Park Assisted Living.  Born to William H. Mulkey and Iva Lee Ellis Mulkey, she was married to Ben Evans in Denton on August 27, 1955, a union lasting over 67 years. Iva Nell retired from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department after 25 years of service.  Iva Nell, along with her husband Ben were faithful, active members of the First Baptist Church, Brownwood for almost 40 years.  She loved singing in the choir, serving in the WMU and on outreach ministries of the church during most of those years.  During her kid’s school years in the Brownwood ISD, she served as PTA president, Band Boosters, Lions Mother’s Club, any and everywhere she was needed.  During her retirement years she was part of the Dam Quilters, Good Samaritan Ministries, The Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Brownwood Regional Hospital and was also the treasurer of the Dam Volunteer Fire Department.

Iva Nell was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers (Waymon H. Mulkey, Charles Pierce {Laddie} Mulkey, Adrian Ellis {Pete} Mulkey) one sister (Betty Mulkey Baker) and her daughter Melanie Evans Jennings.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Ben Earl Evans, brother Barri Joe Mulkey, sons (Brian Earl Evans {Lynelle} of Lampasas, Brent Eric Evans {Jill} of Brownwood, Barri Oral Evans {Kim} of Midland, and son-in-law from Melanie, Dennis Wayne Jennings {Jana}) of Springfield, Missouri. | nine grandchildren (Ben Jennings (Megan) of Findley, Ohio, Erin Evans of Cameron, Texas, Shad Jennings (Rachael) of Springfield, Missouri, Dexter Evans (Meggie) of Dallas, Erica Evans Whitaker (Josh) of Louisville, Kentucky, Michelle Evans Cleveland (Jack) of Arlington, Hadyn Evans of Leander, Dylon Evans (Jaimee) of Brownwood, and Masyn Evans-Clements (Brandon) of Round Rock, | Eight Great Grandchildren (Melana Jennings, Audrey Jennings, Ezekiel Jennings, Hanna Cleveland, Sarah Cleveland, Matthew Cleveland, Winnie Evans, Benjamin Evans, Millie Iva Nell Evans-Clements, Ava Jennings, Silas Jennings).

Funeral services for Iva Nell Evans, age 86, of Brownwood, will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, May 1, 2023, at First Baptist Church – Brownwood.  Burial will follow in Greenleaf Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 4:00 until 6:00.
