LUBBOCK – Midway through the Region I-4A girls golf tournament at Shadow Hills Golf Course, the Brownwood Lady Lions sit in fifth place as a team. The top three teams, and top three individuals not on a qualifying team, will advance to state.

On Monday, the Lady Lions carded a 366 composite score which left them behind Andrews (316), Canyon (329), Seminole (341), and Canyon Randall (356).

Leading the charge for District 6-4A runner-up Brownwood were Haylie Martindale with a round of 90, London England with a 91, Tristyn Garcia with a 92, River Jones with a 93 and Riley Morton with a 107.

Individually, Martindale’s 90 ranked fifth-best among golfers on a team not in the top three spots, trailing only Decatur’s Tori Gardner (77), Canyon Randall’s Kimber Nunn (83), Sweetwater’s Bailey Rainbolt (86) and Randall’s Tylie De Los Santos (87).

The 36-hole, two-round, two-day regional event concludes Tuesday.

The UIL Class 4A state golf tournament will take place May 15-16 at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland.

The District 6-4A champion will compete in regionals at the same site Wednesday and Thursday.
