COLEMAN – The Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 2A No. 20 Bangs Lady Dragons secured the District 6-2A softball championship and the top seed from the league for the playoffs with their 6-2 road victory over Coleman Friday.

Bangs (21-4, 12-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings, which grew to 4-0 in the top of the fifth before Coleman (14-10, 9-3) answered with a pair of runs. The Lady Dragons tacked on insurance runs in the sixth and seventh for the four-run margin.

The Lady Dragons tallied a dozen hits, with two – including a solo home run – coming from Julianna Ethridge. Emily Baker and Neeley Bradley contributed two hits apiece as well, with Baker driving in one. Abby Wolf chipped in a triple and two RBIs while Bailey Mendieta doubled and drove in one. Cheyenne Rush, Jadyn Miller, Sierra Lorah and Jaylee Vasquez also added hits.

In the circle, Wolf went the distance and yielded a pair of runs on six hits with 13 strikeouts and one walk to notch the win.

The Lady Dragons – who have outscored their district foes 165-4 – venture to Christoval at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, and Miles at 5 p.m. Friday to close the regular season.
