Mack Hill Newsom (1931-2023) of Brookesmith, Tx passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 91 on April 10. Visitation will be held at Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Tx on Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 6-8 P.M. Graveside services will be held Friday, April 14, 2023 at 10 A.M. at Cox Cemetery in McCulloch County.

Mack was born on November 28, 1931 in Dulin, Tx in southern Brown County to Ellis and Edith (Hill) Newsom. He attended Brookesmith ISD throughout his schooling. He loved a good foot race and playing marbles with friends.

In 1961, he married his lifelong partner Kathleen Jones Newsom and they had two children (Rebecca and Dan). They built a life together raising cattle, hounds, and kids in the southern end of Brown County.

He worked on various farms and ranches in his life. Then built a career for himself as a cattle rancher. In addition to ranching, he spent many years breeding, training, and competing with Walker Foxhounds at the state level. His passion was hound dogs and he traveled all over the state and surrounding states listening to the running and baying of his dogs on the hunt. He served his community as a Brookesmith ISD school board member and he was a member of the Texas Archaeology Society for many years.

He loved the cowboy way of life. You rarely caught him without a dog by his side. He enjoyed nature, Native American history, Clear Creek, and the simplicity and traditions of the “old way” of life. He found pleasure in gardening, arrowhead hunting, and listening to the birds.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ellis & Edith (Hill) Newsom, siblings Truman (Mert) Newsom. Ward Newsom, and extended family Joe Pennell.

Mack Newsom was survived by his wife Kathleen Jones Newsom, children Rebecca & Donald Seamans; Dan & Linda Newsom, grandchildren, Shantel (Michael) Elrod, Dale (Jocelyn) Seamans, Shyan (Austin) Strong, great grandchildren Thatcher, Kynzlee, Clay, and Summer. Sister-in-law: Joyce Newsom, and extended family: Karen Pennell, Shawn (Amy) Pennell, Seth (Amanda) Pennell, Shanna Jo (Justin) Walkup. All Pennell and Walkup children as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Online condolences, memories and tributes can be made to the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net.
