Perry Lynn Johnson Cowen, age 77, of Brownwood, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. Funeral Services for Perry will be held at 1:00PM on Monday, April 10 at Heartland Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 11AM – 1PM prior to funeral services.

Perry was born to Lee Roy Johnson and Mildred (Jo) Fuchs Johnson on November 22, 1945 in Blanco. She was raised in Gatesville and graduated from Gatesville Highschool in 1964.

Perry started college at Tarleton State University in 1964 and met Carl that year. They married in August of 1966 after Carl graduated. Carl was drafted into the military soon afterwards. While he was serving the country, Perry continued at Tarleton, and HPU where she earned a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1969. She gave birth to two children: first born, Jeffery, was born in November of 1969 followed by Timothy in November of 1972. She began her 23 year teaching career in 1980 at Brookesmith ISD. One of her greatest joys was teaching her students to read.

Perry loved her Lord, and relied on his promise to never leave or forsake her. She and Carl were members at Calvary Baptist Church for almost 50 years. There, they served in many ways to support the church. Perry was most thankful for God’s presence in her life.

Perry is survived by her husband of 57 years, Carl Cowen; sons, Jeffery Cowen and his wife Gina, and Tim Cowen and wife Crystal; grandchildren, Jackson, Hattie, and Elli. She is also survived by a host of other relatives and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Brownwood, or The Good Samaritan.

Online condolences, memories and tributes can be made to the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net.
