Blanket ISD issued the following information regarding its Junior Rodeo coming up May 5-6:

The Blanket High School Ag Department is preparing to host a junior rodeo on May 5th, & 6th, 2023, and a scrap build off, a Texas High School Welding Series event, on May 6th, 2023 at the Blanket High School Rodeo Grounds. We are seeking support for these events through sponsors, donations, building materials and / or possibly awards that will be given to team or individual winners or raffle ticket winners.

The Junior Rodeo Events will consist of barrels, flags, rough stock, goats, poles, and roping for the following age groups: 8 & under; 9-12; 13-15; and 16-19. Rodeo participants have a shot at a nightly jackpot and all around cowgirls and cowboys for each age group receiving a buckle.

At Texas High School Welding Series Build off Events, students use mobile or portable generator / welding rigs to weld, grind, wire brush, or even cut materials in order to construct a project as part of a group of 3 or 4 participants. These students may or may not be given a set of blueprints to construct the project or may be required to come up with a design after a theme has been revealed. Students then generally have 5 to 6 hours to construct the project with limited input from their instructors.

Students may also attempt to earn welding certificates according to AWS D9.1 standards by placing a passing Weld on a T-Joint to be inspected by a certified welding inspector. Some students will earn certifications to help them get interviews with potential companies and hopefully get their foot into the welding industry. While other students may decide to attend a technical school or college to learn more about welding so they can pursue a career in the welding industry.

At previous Texas High School Events, placing teams and raffle winners typically receive types of welding equipment or PPEs possibly being: cutting torch rigs, disc grinders, chop saws, welding rods, welding gloves, safety glasses, cutting & grinding discs, welding helmets, shaded oxy-acetylene cutting glasses, flint strikers, disc grinders etc.

In conclusion, Blanket High School Ag Department is preparing to host a junior rodeo event and a scrap build off event in which we would love to have your Support, either through sponsorship, donations, building materials, donated merchandise for awards or anything you are willing to assist with or even your time. Please consider our request and let us know if you are interested.
