The Early Police Department issued the following press release Wednesday morning:

On Tuesday, March 22, officers with Early Police Department investigated some suspicious circumstances in the 700 block of Lucas. A neighboring business reported seeing a male and female enter into a house that was vacant and for sale. Officers knocked on the door at which time a male and female jumped out a bedroom window and ran. Officers pursued and ordered them to stop which they did a short distance away. Upon further investigation it was learned both individuals had drug an old mattress in from a dumpster as well as other items into the house and began to live there.

A records check on the male, Cody Austin Turk revealed he was a sex offender wanted for fail to comply with sex offender requirements in Brown County. It was also learned that Turk still hasn’t registered or reported to any agency for his place of residency therefore he was charged with a 2nd charge of failure to comply with sex offender requirements. Turk was originally convicted of a Stranger Rape in Tarrant County in January 2013. Turk was also charged with criminal trespass of a habitation. Due to Turks criminal record and failure to comply with rules of a sex offender it is our belief he poses a danger to the public and we are pleased to announce he is in jail.

The female, Laura Marie Stambaugh of Brownwood was charged with criminal trespass of a habitation, class A misdemeanor.
