Susan Lee Atkinson peacefully passed away March 17, 2023, at the age of 70, after a difficult battle with Alzheimer’s. A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Fairview Cemetery in Grosvenor, Texas.

Susan was born to Delton and Hazel Lunceford Sr. on March 3, 1953 in Odessa, Texas. She met the love of her life, Ross Atkinson while they both were working at Howard Payne University. They married on August 8, 1988 and enjoyed 32 years of marriage until his death in 2020. Susan’s role as a mother to her daughter Janice was the most important part of Susan’s life. She was supportive, kind, hilarious and witty and she will be missed dearly. Susan enjoyed hobbies, such as gardening and woodworking, but her most important hobby was spoiling her Schnauzer dogs.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Janice and her husband Bodie Wright; grandsons, Devin Fincher and Danny Sanderson and his wife Ashley; great-grandchildren, Calvin, Braylee, Addie, and Cutler Sanderson; with bonus children, David Atkinson, Mark Atkinson and Richard Cogan; siblings, Carolynn Seward, Mary Ann Grimes, Ricky Wiggins and his wife Rosie, Richard Eaton and Dee Dee Coley; siter-in-law, Karen Mullins along with a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and loved ones.

Susan was proceeded in death by her loving husband, Ross Atkinson, her father, Delton Lunceford Sr., her mother, Hazel Eaton, her step-father, Royce Eaton, her brothers, Delton Lunceford Jr. and Ronnie Lunceford, her nephew, Shannon Slaughter and her sister-in-law, Beth Atkinson.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Susan’s name to Alzheimer’s and Dementia Research at Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or to an animal shelter of your choice.

Online condolences, memories and tributes can be made to the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net.
