The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Wednesday afternoon:

On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at approximately 10:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of 5th St. regarding a report of subjects fighting outside the home.  This residence is becoming well known by officers as a place for illegal activity such as illegal drugs, stolen property and wanted subjects.

Corporal Kris Salazar arrived on scene first and located 4 adult males outside the residence.  These four males denied knowing anything about a disturbance.  While making these claims, several adults ran out the backdoor of the residence, into the alleyway.

An adult female homeowner exited the front of the residence and informed Cpl. Salazar that another male was inside a rear bedroom speaking to a male homeowner.  The male entered the residence uninvited and was holding a pistol.  He was also the male whom ‘everyone’ was trying to assault.

Cpl. Salazar approached the rear of the residence and encountered another male hiding in the yard.  This male was searched and detained.  Additionally, Cpl. Salazar could hear movement and talking from inside the rear of the residence.  He yelled for a male, known to reside in this part of the residence to exit the rear door and he complied and informed Cpl. Salazar that ‘Conner’ was still inside.

Other officers were contacted to secure the location and contact the male subject whom was now barricaded inside the residence.  This male suspect was identified as 24-year-old Connor Lane Trapp of Brownwood.

Trapp was yelled at and given an opportunity to surrender without further incident or face additional charges. Trapp did elect to surrender to Cpl. Salazar and immediately stated that the males at the front of the residence were “trying to jump” him.

Officers were able to locate a pistol in the location that Trapp was alleged to have hidden from law enforcement.  That pistol was checked by Communications and determined to have been stolen out of Brown County.

In the investigation, officers learned that this entire incident centered around illegal drug activity.  Trapp admitted to being a drug addict and claimed to be running from one drug dealer’s home to another to avoid being assaulted.

Trapp was arrested and charged with Theft of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
