The Brownwood Art Center, at 215 Fisk Ave., is inviting you to meet Donna Lewis, who will be giving a demonstration of the art of collage on Tuesday, March 14, from 6-7:30 pm.  This event is free and open to the public.

The presentation will include the following topics:

·         What is Collage?

·         Overview of collage papers

·         Basic tools and supplies

·         Techniques for altering papers.

Born in New Mexico, Donna Lewis owes much of her sense of space, color, and form to the patchwork vistas of the New Mexico landscape.

Inspired by her grandmother, Donna’s creative journey started years ago when she completed her first quilt comprised of scores of simple triangles.  A few years later after completing many more quilts with increasingly complex designs, Donna began to take her creative drive and love of geometric shapes and patterns outside the sewing room.

A visit to a local watercolor exhibit inspired Donna to begin exploring watercolor painting, which soon became her love.  Since that time, Donna has explored acrylic painting as well as collage.  Donna has been painting since the early 1990’s.

As she became more involved in art, Donna quickly became attracted to the whimsical works of Paul Klee.  In addition to Klee, the rational, geometric patterns of Modernist Wassily Kandinsky and the highly detailed works of Gustav Klimt continue to appeal deeply to Donna.

Lewis notes, “I start with few expectations and work intuitively allowing te work to evolve to a point where it begins to speak to me. The art and the process need mystery, attention to detail, and an open-ended outcome to hold my interest.”

Donna has participated in numerous juried art exhibits, winning awards at various Central Texas venues for her work. She received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1977.  Donna works from her studio in Early, Texas.

Regular gallery hours at the Art Center are 2-6 pm, weekdays.  For more information about the Brownwood Art Association, stop by the gallery or call 325-641-2916.  You can also find us on Facebook.
