Dewain “Sonny” Lee, 82, of Brownwood, Texas passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023. A visitation with family will be held at Heartland Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, March 1, 2023. Chapel Service will be held in Heartland Funeral Home at 10:00, Thursday, March 2, 2023 with interment to follow at May Cemetery officiated by Bill Slaymaker.

Sonny was born May 24, 1940 in May, Texas to Barnie and Ruth Lee. He graduated from May High School where he played football, basketball and track. He attended Cisco Junior College after graduation and joined the National Guard with his cousin that he loved like a brother, Don Lee. They served as Medics in the National Guard and were stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Sonny married Saundra Whitmire on February 22, 1963 in Brownwood, Texas and their union was blessed with three children, Shaela, Brian and Tyler. Sonny and Saundra grieved at the loss of Tyler as an infant and Sonny again grieved at the loss of his wife, Saundra too early in 1986. Sonny married Donna Kelly in 1990 and the two families became one again. Sonny and Donna lived at lake Brownwood and he was an avid fisherman. Sonny worked for Oncor for 31 years as crew foreman and retired in 1997. He enjoyed gardening and was always on a quest to raise the hottest peppers he could find. Sonny was a collector of many things, but his love for his family was his greatest treasure.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Donna Kelly Lee of Brownwood; daughter, Shaela Gray and husband Steve of Arlington, Texas and their children, Jordan, Kacie & Riley; son, Brian Lee and wife Keri of Brownwood and their children, Braycee, Ellie & Beckham; sister, Betty Roberts of Brownwood; brother-in-laws, Weldon Stark of Plano and David Kelly & wife Michelle of Fort Worth; great grandson, Imani Gray of Arlington; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Sonny was preceded in death by his first wife, Saundra Lee; son, Tyler Dewain Lee; parents, Barnie & Ruth Lee; sister, Wanda Stark; and a brother, Bill Lee.

The family wants to express great admiration to the Hendrick League House in Abilene for the facility and assistance they gave the family during this time. Anyone wanting to make a donation in lieu of sending flowers please donate to Hendrick League House, 1910 Hickory St, Abilene, TX 79601 in Sonny Lee’s name.

Online condolences can be shared with the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net
