Lions golfers place third in team standings at Region I-4A preview

LUBBOCK – The Brownwood Lions golf team finished third overall at the 36-hole Region I-4A preview tournament, held at Shadow Hills Golf Course Friday and Saturday. The top three teams at regionals in mid-April will advance to state.

The Lions generated a 622 composite score off rounds of 316 Friday and 306 Saturday. Brownwood trailed only tournament champion Canyon Randall (601) and runner-up Andrews (604). The Lions finished ahead of Bridgeport (629), Monahans (632), Hereford (636), Andrews II (640), Big Spring (645), Canyon (647), Levelland (674), Sweetwater (674), Seminole (681), Monahans II (692), and Stephenville (697), among others.

Individually, Hudson Reagan placed fourth overall with a 147 tally following rounds of 74 and 73. Also competing for the Lions were Caleb Modawell with a 150 after consecutive rounds of 75; Cobe Walker with a 164 with rounds of 86 and 78; Slayde Espinoza with a 168 after rounds with 81 and 87; and Sir Bubba Jones with a 169 that featured rounds of 89 and 80.

Competing as a medalist from Brownwood was Peyton Sharp, who turned in a 169 after rounds of 88 and 81.

The next action for the Lions is Friday and Saturday at the Abilene High Invitational, scheduled to the take place at The Hideout.

The Lady Lions golfers will take in the Region I-4A girls tournament at Shadow Hills next weekend.
