ABILENE – The Brownwood Lady Lions overcame a two-run deficit with seven runs in the top of the fourth inning for an 8-3 victory over Big Spring in their second game at Abilene Icebreaker tournament Thursday.

Down 3-1 in the top of the fourth inning, Cecilia Rodriguez and Mackenzie Welch led off with a consecutive singles and Adriana Romero followed with a one-out base hit to load the bases. Mia Lopez then came through a two-RBI double that plated Rodriguez and Welch ahead of a two-RBI triple from Jeniffer Romero that brought home Romero and Lopez. Chloe Walls then chipped in RBI double which doubled up Big Spring, 6-3, and Kyleigh Caperton launched a two-run home run for the final five-run margin.

The Lady Lions produced 11 hits – two each by Walls, Rodriguez and Welch and one apiece by Jeniffer Romero, Adriana Romero, Peyton Pena, Lopez and Caperton.

In the circle, Tynlea Wilson gave up three runs – none earned – on two hits with four strikeouts, one walk and two base runners stranded.

The Lady Lions fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning as Gissele Holguin drew a lead-off walk, then Celi Vela laid down a bunt and reached on an error that allowed Holguin to score all the way from first base. Later, with two outs in the inning, Cloe Viasana delivered an RBI single that plated Vela.

Brownwood trimmed Big Spring’s lead to 2-1 in the top of third as Lopez reached on a one-out walk. An infield single by Walls with two outs put runners on the corners, and Lopez scored from third on the back end of a double steal with Walls.

Big Spring extended its advantage to 3-1 in the bottom of the third as Vela reached on a one-out single and came home when Illeana Madrid reached on a two-out miscue, one of two Brownwood errors in the contest.

The Lady Lions (3-2) will resume tournament action Saturday with games against Sweetwater at 10:45 a.m., Breckenridge at 2 p.m., and Snyder at 3:45 p.m.
