Tristan Salinas (20) led the Lions with 26 points at Mineral Wells Tuesday.

MINERAL WELLS – The Brownwood Lions’ opportunity to enter the playoffs as the second seed out District 6-4A slipped through their fingertips as they dropped their regular season finale at last-place Mineral Wells, 82-69, Monday night.

The Lions (13-17, 3-5) must now wait for the result of Tuesday’s game between Stephenville (13-17, 3-4) and Graham (16-15, 3-4) to learn if they will be the third or fourth playoff seed out of the district. A Stephenville win would knock Graham into a tie for third place with Brownwood where the Lions would claim the third seed having swept the district series from the Steers. A Graham win results in a tie for third between the Lions and Stephenville, but Brownwood would drop to the fourth seed having lost both district encounters to the Yellow Jackets.

In Monday’s outing against a Mineral Wells (12-22, 2-6) squad the Lions defeated 68-36 in Brownwood on Jan. 27, the host Rams used a 27-11 surge during the fourth period to rally from a three-point deficit to stun second-year head coach Will Parker’s troops. Mineral Wells led 17-13 after one quarter, but the Lions rallied for a 35-33 halftime lead and carried a 58-55 advantage into the fourth period.

Tristan Salinas finished with 26 points for Brownwood trailed by Ike Hall with 14, Thad Hinds with 11, Morsello Hooker with six, Gage Sparks and Ryder Lancaster with three each, Hayden Proffitt and Hayden Noe with two points apiece.
