The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Monday afternoon:

On December 31, 2022, at approximately 9:45 p.m., first responders with the Brownwood Police Department, Fire Department, and AMR Ambulance Service, were dispatched to the Rainforest Apartments in the 2300 block of Magnolia St regarding a report of an assault.  The 911 caller explained that he was attacked by 3 males, brandishing knives, and was injured.  Additionally, gunshots were fired by the victim during the assault in an attempt to defend himself.

When officers arrived on scene, the male victim was located with numerous lacerations on his upper body.  The victim was transported to the Hendricks Medical Center- Brownwood for treatment.

Detectives with the Brownwood Police Department commenced their investigation and interviewed several neighbors and gathered items of evidence.

On January 26, 2023, at approximately 7:40 p.m., the same male victim phoned 911 and reported that he was attacked by 2 unknown males while walking to the trash dumpsters.  Again, detectives were contacted, and they arrived to interview the victim and gather evidence.

The reported incidents are quite alarming and have been thoroughly investigated for the safety of those renting from the complex as well as the safety of the general public.

In an interview conducted at the Brownwood Law Enforcement Center on Friday, February 10, 2023, the victim admitted to Detectives of fabricating both assaults and injuring himself to give the appearance of an assault.  These assaults did not occur.

Both cases of assault have been closed and a new case for Making a False Report to Police Officers and Deadly Conduct have been generated.  This matter will likewise be thoroughly investigated and presented to local prosecutors for potential arrest warrants.
