HOOPS ROUNDUP: Early, May boys continue march toward playoffs with home wins

EARLY – The Early Longhorns locked up the No. 3 playoff seed from District 8-3A with a 68-49 home victory over the Eastland Mavericks Friday night.

The Longhorns (8-5 in district) led 17-9 after one quarter, 38-27 at halftime, and 50-34 through three periods.

Leading the charge offensively were Jeremy Brown with 19 points, Kaleb Hoffman with 14, Jaxyn Price with 12, Colton Allen and John Hill with eight each, John-Stewart Gordon with three, and Rohyn Price and Dalton Adams with two points apiece.

Early wraps up the regular season at Dublin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

May Tigers 63, Rising Star 51

MAY – The May Tigers bounced back from their only District 13-A defeat with a 63-51 home triumph over Rising start Friday night.

May (23-5, 8-1) trailed 14-11 after one quarter, grabbed a 36-27 halftime lead, and carried a 48-40 edge into the fourth period.

The Tigers received 22 points from Braden Steele, 17 from Ben Harrell, and nine each from Zach Martin and Bryson Guerrero.

May will conclude the regular season at Baird at 6 p.m. Monday.

Miles 77, Bangs Dragons 29

BANGS – The Bangs Dragons remained winless against District 8-2A competition, suffering a 77-29 home loss to Miles Friday night.

The Dragons (0-9 in district) lead 13-6 after one quarter, trailed 36-19 at intermission, and faced a 59-23 deficit heading into the fourth period.

Guy Funk led Bangs with 10 points followed by Weston Jundt with eight, Tyson Woods with four, Guy Powell with three, and Nate Stoffer and Hunter Newton with two points apiece.

The Dragons will put the finishing touches on their season at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday at Winters.
