James A. Wilkinson, 87, of Proctor, TX passed from this life in his home Friday February 3, 2023. His life will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday February 7, 2023 in the Heartland Funeral Home Comanche Chapel. Memories and condolences to the family can be left online at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net

James was born August 20, 1935, in Sudan TX to Joseph Gano and Mary Ellen (Cummings) Wilkinson. He attended and graduated from Sundan High School. James served in the United States Army August 21, 1954 to August 21, 1956 active duty and in the reserves 1956 – 1959. His duties included trainer/ordinance supervisor attached to the Republic of Korea to repair and maintain anti-aircraft artillery weapons. Later in life James worked as a mudlogger in the petroleum industry, a refrigeration technician, and as a handyman. His many interest outside of work included gardening, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, barbequing, repairing and restoring classic cars, and gun-smithing.

James is survived by son, Paul Wilkinson and wife Anita of Germany; daughters, Andrea Mowery and husband Mark of Colcord OK, Wendy Chamberlain and husband Jeff of Colcord OK, Erin Roberts and husband Eddie of Crawfordsville AR; stepdaughter, Sharon Kapeller and husband Earl of Round Rock TX; son-in-law, Mike Wheeler of Schertz TX; grandchildren, Jared Chamberlain, Seth Chamberlain, Colin Wilkinson, Jolie Roberts, and Brynn Roberts; 2 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and 2 step-grandchildren; sisters, Ada Greer of Casper WY, Mable Wages of Muleshoe TX, and Ruby Gipson of Gig Harbor WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 21 years Nelda Wilkinson; siblings, Opha, Genevieve, Mary, Wayne, Floyd, and Lloyd; step-daughters, Gaila Wheeler and Susan Connally.
