Tristan Salinas (left) led scored a team-high 11 points for Brownwood (11-14, 1-2), which hosts Mineral Wells at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

GLEN ROSE – The Brownwood Lions were dealt their second consecutive District 6-4A loss since pulling off a victory in the opener, falling at league leader Glen Rose by a 53-37 count Tuesday night.

The Lions (11-14, 1-2) trailed by a 12-7 score after one quarter, pulled even at 15 with just over two minutes left in the first half, but Glen Rose (24-6, 4-0) opened a 22-17 edge at intermission. Glen Rose started the second half with the first eight points, and after three quarters Brownwood faced a 33-23 deficit.

“We were a little short-handed so it was next man up for us,” said Lions second-year head coach Will Parker. “We talked about trying to pull them out, get them away from the basket defensively. I thought it was a good game plan. We tried something new, but any time you do something new you’re going to struggle a little bit. We also talked a lot about points off turnovers, and we can’t turn the ball over on one end and give up layups on the other.”

Tristan Salinas led the Lions with 11 points followed by Luke Gray with 10, Morsello Hooked with eight, Hayden Noe with four and Thad Hinds and Jason Jackson with two points apiece.

Glen Rose was sparked by Bryce Birl with 13 points and Zeke Niedziela and Caden Smith with 12 points apiece.

Brownwood welcomes Mineral Wells at 7:15 p.m. Friday as the Lions wrap up the first half of league action.
