HOOPS ROUNDUP: May boys, girls sweep Rising Star; Blanket, Zephyr split

RISING STAR – The May Tigers improved to 4-0 in District 13-A boys basketball action and 19-4 on the season with a 57-42 road triumph over Rising Star Tuesday night.

The Tigers led 19-10 after one quarter, 33-25 halftime, and 45-34 heading into the fourth period.

May was sparked by Bryson Guerrero’s 18 points, Braden Steele’s 16, and 10 points from Zach Martin.

The Tigers will host Baird in district competition Friday night.

May Lady Tigers 46, Rising Star 21

RISING STAR – The May Lady Tigers returned to the win column with a 46-21 road victory over District 13-A rival Rising Star Tuesday night.

May (17-11, 4-2) led 14-3 after one quarter, 26-7 at halftime, and 36-14 through three periods.

Jordyn Gerhardt and Kenleigh Williford led May with nine points each and Mia Musick chipped in six.

The Lady Tigers will host Baird Friday night.

Zephyr Lady Bulldogs 39, Blanket Lady Tigers 19

BLANKET—The Zephyr Lady Bulldogs picked up a 39-19 District 18-A road victory over the Blanket Lady Tigers Tuesday night.

Zephyr led 13-2 after one quarter, 28-2 at halftime and 36-3 through three periods.

No additional information on the game was available.

Blanket travels to Sidney Friday while Zephyr hosts Evant.

Blanket Tigers 38, Zephyr Bulldogs 36, OT

BLANKET – The Blanket Tigers survived a rally from the Zephyr Bulldogs to notch a 38-36 overtime victory in District 18-A action Tuesday night.

Blanket led Zephyr by a 10-2 count after one quarter, but the Bulldogs pulled to within 14-13 at halftime and at the end of regulation the score was knotted at 34.

The Tigers were led by Kade Bradley with 12 points, Brayden Day with nine, Levi Vazquez with eight, Issac Smith with seven, and Aydan Wheeler with two points.

No information for Zephyr was available.

Blanket (15-5, 4-3) travels to Sidney Friday while Zephyr hosts Evant.

Brock 63, Early Longhorns 29

BROCK – The Early Longhorns’ five-game District 8-3A win streak was snapped by the No. 6 Brock Eagles, 63-29, Tuesday night.


Early (5-3 in district) trailed 19-6 after one quarter, 31-14 at halftime, and 48-23 through three quarters.

The Longhorns received 11 points from Kaleb Hoffman, six from Andrew Caten, four from Colten Allen, three each from John Hill and Jeremy Brown, and two points from Dalton Adams.

Early visits No. 5 Peaster Friday.

Miles 43, Bangs Lady Dragons 35

MILES – The Bangs Lady Dragons slipped to 1-5 in District 8-2A action as they began the second half of league play with a 43-35 road loss to Miles Tuesday.

Bangs trailed 12-7 after one quarter, pulled even at 20 at halftime, but faced a 34-28 heading into the fourth period.

Kasey Solis scored a team-best 16 points for Bangs followed by Joey Newton with seven and Rylie Guerrero and Jadyn Miller with six points apiece.

The Lady Dragons will host Winters at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Miles 62, Bangs Dragons 24

MILES – The Bangs Dragons fell to 0-4 in District 8-2A basketball action with a 62-24 road loss to Miles Tuesday night.

The Dragons trailed 27-7 after one quarter, 39-15 at halftime, and 56-22 through three frames.

Guy Funk paced the Dragons with 10 points followed by Hunter Newton with five, Tyson Woods with four, Braxton Wommack with three, and Nate Stoffer with two points.

Bangs welcomes Winters Friday night.

Brock 53, Early Lady Horns 12

BROCK – The Early Lady Horns tumbled to 0-10 in District 8-3A basketball action with a 53-12 road loss to No. 8 Brock Tuesday night.

Katie Whitehead finished with three points for the Lady Horns followed by Trinity Torrez, Caroline Welker, Jodi Lykes and Averey Horton with two points each, and Madison Torrez added a free throw.

Early ventures to No. 5 Peaster Friday.
