The Howard Payne University football program announced Friday the addition of Terell Sims as receivers coach.

Terell Sims comes to Howard Payne from Sul Ross State, where he helped lead the Lobos to an ASC-leading passing offense in 2022. The Lobos finished the 2022 season as the #1 passing offense in the ASC (#14 in the nation).

Serving as receivers’ coach and pass game coordinator, Coach Sims coached three All-Conference receivers in 2022.

“I am excited about Coach Terell Sims joining the football staff,” said Kevin Bachtel head football coach. “He has a wide variety of knowledge and has a great deal of experience. He and Coach (Brad) Wilson, having worked together at Sul Ross and understanding how each other works, will be a tremendous asset to our offense.”

He previously served as wide receivers coach for Valdosta State University in 2021. While also coaching punt and kick returners, Sims had one All-American receiver and two All-Conference receivers with over 1,000 yards each in his time at Valdosta State.

Sims has worked as a receivers coach at Eastern Illinois University (2020-21), Virginia State University (2019-20), and assistant receivers coach positions at Florida A&M University (2016-17) and Florida International University (2014-16).

He graduated from Florida International University with a degree in Sports Management and Recreation in 2016 before completing a Master’s degree in Business Administration at St. Leo University in 2020.
