Shelly Renee McLaughlin, 53, of Brownwood, Texas passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel, Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 2:00 PM.

Shelly was born February 11, 1969 in Eastland, Texas to Connie McLaughlin. She attended Cisco Community College gaining an Associate Degree in Accounting and was married to Kevin Castleberry where she was blessed with her two wonderful children. Shelly loved fishing, crafting, caring for plants, animals and people. She was known as Smiley because she smiled so much. Shelly was late to absolutely everything but she savored the moments she lived. She could spoil those she loved with small gifts, messages and well wishes. She loved fiercely. Shelly was a survivor. She had many hardships in her life, but she always found a way to make do with what she had. She loved Goodwill and other thrift stores. She and the Dollar Stores were great friends. She loved sitting on her balcony while she smoked her cigarettes, drank her coffee and watched the deer. She loved doing research, no specific topic, just what caught her interest at the moment. One of her favorite topics to research was biblical history. She had a passionate love for God and her family.

Shelly is survived by her daughter, Jordan Castleberry of Denton; son, Jacob Castleberry of Abilene; mother, Connie McLaughlin of Coleman; sister, Cheryl Ann McLaughlin of Coleman; and two best friends, Karen Chapman of Abilene & Tracey Gwinn and husband David of Burleson, Texas.

Shelly was preceded in death by her son, Joshua Castleberry.

Online condolences can be shared with the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net.
