HOOPS ROUNDUP: Early, May boys notch victories; Bangs girls claim first district win

EASTLAND – The Early Longhorns secured their fourth consecutive District 8-3A victory with a 45-35 road triumph over the Eastland Mavericks Tuesday night.

Entering the contest tied for third place in the district standings, Early (4-2 in league play) led 13-8 after one quarter, 30-13 at halftime, and 34-21 heading into the fourth period.

Colton Allen paced Early with 11 points trailed by John Hill with nine, Jeremy Brown with seven, Kaleb Hoffman with six, Rohyn Price with five, Jaxyn Price with four, and John-Stewart Gordon with three points.

The Longhorns will host Dublin Friday night.

Bangs Lady Dragons 41, Colorado City 21

COLORADO CITY – Following three losses by a total of four points in their previous three District 8-2A outings, the Bangs Lady Dragons finally landed in the win column Tuesday night with a 41-21 road triumph over Colorado City.

Bangs (1-3 in district) led 10-9 after one quarter, 21-12 at halftime, and 36-19 through three periods.

The Lady Dragons received 21 points from Kasey Solis, six each from Neeley Bradley, Jadyn Miller, and Joey Newton, and two points from Rylie Guerrero.

Bangs will host Roscoe Friday night.

May Tigers 35, Cross Plains 25

CROSS PLAINS – The May Tigers remained undefeated in District 13-A basketball action with a 35-25 road victory over Cross Plains Tuesday night.

The Tigers led 10-4 after one quarter, 16-13 at intermission and 28-21 heading into the fourth period.

May received 11 points from Braden Steele, 10 from Zach Martin, and six each from Luke McKenzie and Bryson Guerrero.

The Tigers (17-4, 2-0) are back in action Friday at home against Eula.

Cross Plains 62, May Lady Tigers 37

CROSS PLAINS – The May Lady Tigers suffered their first District 13-A loss Tuesday night, dropping a 62-37 decision at Cross Plains.

The Lady Tigers trailed 11-6 after one quarter, 32-20 at halftime, and 46-31 through three periods.

Mia Musick led May with nine points followed by six each from Chloe Lord and McKenna Landes.

The Lady Tigers will attempt to bounce back Friday as they host Eula.

Colorado City 52, Bangs Dragons 26

COLORADO CITY – The Bangs Dragons fell to 0-2 in District 8-2A basketball action Tuesday night as they were doubled up by Colorado City, 52-26.

Bangs trailed 16-4 after one period, 31-15 at halftime, and 43-17 heading into the final quarter.

The Dragons were led by Zack Ferguson with nine points, Guy Funk with six, Braxton Womack with four, and Guy Powell, Nate Stoffer, Hunter Newton, and Tyson Woods with two points apiece.

Eastland 49, Early Lady Horns 41

EASTLAND – The Early Lady Horns began the second half of District 8-3A basketball action Tuesday night with a 49-41 loss to Eastland to slip to 0-8 against league competition.

No additional information was available.

The Lady Horns host Dublin Friday night seeking their first district victory.
