Joyce Day

Joyce Lucille Day, 85, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Greenleaf Cemetery, officiated by Tony King.

Joyce was born April 25, 1937 to Carrol David and Elizabeth Hutson in Brownwood, Texas. After graduating from Brownwood High School, on May 1, 1955 she married Bobby W. Day who was serving in the Air Force. During the next several years, while living in a number of places in the U.S. and also in the Netherlands, they had three children: Bobby, Jr., Freda, and Thea. Joyce was a dedicated and loving mother and wife.

After returning to Brownwood in the 1970s, Joyce returned to school, graduating from Howard Payne University. She went on to teach first grade at Bangs Elementary School for the next 21 years. She was a dedicated teacher and was beloved by her students. She shared her kindness with her students and the community.

After Joyce retired from teaching, she became an avid and skilled genealogist and quilter.

Joyce was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Day, Jr. and husband, Bobby Day Sr.

She is survived by her daughters, Freda Day of Early and Thea Griffin of Lake Brownwood; grandsons, Jonathan Day of Early, Texas, Nicholas and his wife Michelle Griffin of Kingsland, Georgia, and Jerry Griffin of Jacksonville, Florida; granddaughter, Brandi Smith of Clarkston, Washington; and great-grandsons, Ramzey and Ronin Griffin of Kingsland, Georgia.

Joyce requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Shriners Children’s Hospital.
