Janet LaRue Burns, 85, of Wingate passed away peacefully at Bangs Nursing and Rehab on Saturday, December 17, 2022.

Janet was born on June 10, 1937 at the family ranch in Southern Taylor County to Vester and Pearl Gamble Parrish.

Janet was raised in Wingate and was a 1955 graduate of Winters High School. She married Raymond Burns on June 19, 1955 at the Wingate Baptist Church. She then graduated from Business College in Pasadena, Texas and returned to Winters with Raymond to begin their careers. She retired from First Savings and Loan as the first female Vice President of the company. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Winters.

Janet is survived by her son Tobin and wife Keri Lynn of Brownwood. Three Grandchildren: Tarra Whittenburg and Kenny of Nolanville, Tracey Burns and Jason Butler of Lubbock and Tory Burns of Arlington. Two Great Grandchildren: Mason and Ryder Whittenburg of Nolanville. Three Sisters: Karen Poehls, Brenda Worley, Wandrae Leszcynski and a special cousin, Nora Ann Carpenter.

Janet was preceded in death by her son, Clinton Ray Burns, her parents and her husband of 51 years.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

The family would like to say a special “Thank you” to the employees of Bangs Nursing & Rehab Center where she was treated like family.
