The Howard Payne University football program announced Wednesday the hiring of HPU alumni, Brad Wilson as offensive coordinator of the Yellow Jacket football program.

Brad Wilson comes to Howard Payne from Sul Ross State University where he served as the Lobos assistant head coach and offensive coordinator for the 2022 season.

In 2022, Coach Wilson’s offenses were among the tops in the American Southwest Conference ranking first or second in six different categories. During conference play, the Lobos finished first in passing yards (2,716), passing yards per game (339.5), and first downs (25.1 per game).

“I am very excited to add Coach Wilson as our offensive coordinator,” said Kevin Bachtel head football coach. “Coach Wilson has a great track record of high-powered offenses and I’m excited to see him continue our offensive success.”

While at Sul Ross State, his offenses broke or tied five school records and he had three players named ASC Offensive Player of the Week in the 2022 season.

Before SRSU, Coach Wilson served as the offensive coordinator at East Texas Baptist for two seasons (2020-2021). There, he led the second-best passing offense in the ASC at 267.8 yards per.

Wilson was at Navarro College from 2017 to the spring of 2020, where he served as assistant head coach, and offensive coordinator for the Bulldogs. During his time at Navarro, he coached and developed 11 NCAA Division I players. In his first season as the offensive coordinator, Navarro ranked #1 in the country in total offense, yards per game, and passing offense. They also won the SWJCFC Championship for the first time since 2012.

A native of Snyder, Texas, Brad spent three seasons as a graduate assistant and student assistant (2014-17) at Howard Payne University, working with running backs, wide receivers, and quarterbacks.

Wilson and his wife, Raven, have been married since 2014 and have five children – Madelyn, Emma, Maren, Bryce, and Ella. Maren went on to be with the Lord in June 2021.

He is a 2015 graduate of Howard Payne University with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science.
