The annual week-after-Christmas tradition returns to Brownwood this year, with the TexasBank Holiday Classic set to take place Wednesday, Dec. 28 through Friday, Dec. 30 at the Brownwood Coliseum and Brownwood High School.

The tournament will include 28 teams competing in 62 games over the three-day run.

The Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions will again serve as hosts, while the Early Longhorns have joined the mix as the third team from Brown County to participate in the event.

Both the Lions and Longhorns will compete in the Big School portion of the boys draw, which also includes Little River Academy, Big Spring, Wall, Dublin, Gatesville, Brady and Abilene Wylie.

The nine schools will be split into three pools as the Lions will compete in the AccelHealth Pool along with Academy and Big Spring, the Longhorns will take part in the TexasBank Pool with Wylie and Brady, and the Spark Insurance Pool features Wall, Dublin and Gatesville.

There are 11 girls teams competing in three pools this year, as joining Brownwood in the Gray Real Estate Pool are Little River Academy, Fort Worth Lake Country Christian, and Valley Mills. The Pitts Porta Pool features Goldthwaite, Abilene Cooper and Dublin, while the Kohler Pool is comprised of Fort Worth Nolan Catholic, Wellington, Jarrell and Coleman.

There is also an eight-team Small School boys bracket, which includes Goldthwaite, Sidney, De Leon, Albany, Coleman, Waco Meyer, Wellington and Santo.

Stories on the Lady Lions and Lions will appear Monday, Dec. 26 and Tuesday, Dec. 27, respectively, at BrownwoodNews.com.
