Zonya Ann (Samberson) Smith, 59, of Brownwood, passed from this earth to be with Our Heavenly Father, December 20, 2022 at home surrounded by loved ones. A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Crossway Baptist Church in Crowley, Texas at 10 a.m.

Zonya was born June 15, 1963 to Jack and Joy Samberson in Brownwood, Texas. She graduated from Crowley High School, class of 1981 where she played in the band and made many life-long friends. Throughout her life she never met a stranger. In her recent years she was the secretary of the Pecan Valley Kiwanis Club and enjoyed volunteering and working with the Key Club.  She worked at Heart of Texas Mechanical with people she deeply cared for. She had a servant’s heart and served in youth ministry for most of her life. Whether it was teaching preschool, youth group, driving a bus or cooking for the church, she was there every chance she could get. Zonya, with her infectious smile, often gifted people with beautiful and delicious cakes for their special occasions. She enjoyed crafting, painting pictures, and antiquing, but there was nothing she loved and enjoyed more than being an Oma. She was an outgoing personality and was loved by many. She will be deeply missed, but as she would say she is doing “absolutely marvelous” now.

Zonya is survived by her husband Ashley Smith; children, Daniel Darby and his wife Kerry, Kassie (Darby) Chambliss and her husband Terry, Coby Hefler and his wife Sunny, Jessica (Smith) Jones and her husband Scott; brother, James Samberson and his wife Pam; Grandchildren, Joyanna, Dax, Scarlett, Alison, Adrian, Ash, Alexis, and Tara; Her favorite nephews, JT Samberson and Ryan Golden and many nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

Zonya was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Joy Samberson; and her husband, Gary Hefler.

Special Thanks to Cousins, George and Cynthia Owens, family, friends, and church family for your support during this time.

Online condolences can be shared with the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net.
