The Texas high school football season has concluded now, with the state championship games all played this week at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.  We got out the Texas Football Magazine, published in July of this year, and checked their predictions versus who actually won.

In each of the twelve classifications (1A through 6A, with Division One and Division Two in each classification) there were five predictions:  the four Regional champions and the State Champion.  That’s sixty predictions by Texas Football Magazine, and they got 36 correct for a 60% rate.  That’s not bad!  How much of that is Texas Football being smart, and how much is some football programs being so strong as to make the prediction easy, I don’t know.  Probably a little of both.

Interestingly, Texas Football did the worst in Brownwood’s classification of 4A Div 1, where they got right only one out of the five predictions.  They did the best in Classes 1A Div. 1, 2A Div. 2, 3A Div. 2, and 5A Div. 2, where they correctly predicted four out of five.

So here are the actual Region winners and the State Champions.  The names in bold means Texas Football got it right.  If not, the Texas Football prediction is in parentheses.
