Justin Posey (pictured with wife Krissy) is a 1999 graduate of Brownwood High School and will fill the Place 7 vacancy on the BISD Board of Trustees.

Justin Posey was elected in a landslide to fill the vacant Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees Place 7 position, the lone local race on the ballot in Tuesday’s general election.

Posey received 53.97% of the early vote (408 votes) to jump out to a sizable lead, and finished with 597 votes, or 53.11% percent of the ballots cast.

“I did not expect this, I’m very surprised,” Posey said. “I just really want to thank all the citizens of the Brownwood community, my family and everyone for their support in this election. I’m humbled that everybody put their faith and trust in me and I’m excited to get to work with other board members to keep Brownwood pride strong in the coming years.”

Regarding receiving more than half the vote in a five-person race, Posey said, “I’m shocked really. I guess I have a lot more friends than I realized I did.”

No other candidate received a quarter of the votes, as Francie Clark was the closest at 274 votes, or 24.38%. Also running were Chelsey Flippin (95 votes, 8.45%), Aristeo (A.R.) Cardenas (87 votes, 7.74%), and Neil Larremore (71 votes, 6.32%).

Posey, a 1999 graduate of Brownwood High School, and his wife, Krissy, have two children – daughter, Kori. who graduated from Brownwood High in 2018; and son, Logan, who is currently a junior. Posey’s mother, step-mother, and grandmother all taught at BISD.

As for his goals as a member of the board, Posey said, “The main thing I ran on was to keep Christian, family values in our schools. I wanted to better prepare the schools, every campus for any kind of emergency and train the staff with emergency services to prepare for bad days. That’s my main objective. A lot of the concerns I’ve heard from parents, teachers and even students was discipline, and I’d like to try to address that. I don’t know what all I’ll be able to accomplish, it’s just going to take time and we’ll see what we can do. We would like to form some committees of parents and staff together to try and come up with good ideas on how to fix the issues.”

Posey – who serves as a lieutenant with the Brownwood Fire Department – is following in the footsteps of Tim Jacobs, who resigned from Place 7 in December 2021.
