Artist demonstrations continue at the Brownwood Art Center, 215 Fisk Ave. with an ice-dying demonstration by Brownwood Art Association Member Joan Stewart on Tuesdy, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. Joan is also a member of the B.A.A. Fiber and Textile artists group, and  already gave this popular demonstration during the group’s recent exhibit at the Art Center.  This event is free and open to the public.

According to Stewart, “Ice-dying, a method of using ice, pretreated fabrics, and fiber reactive dyes, has become an easy and favorite process of creating abstract designs. This method can be used for garments, fabric and art work.”
Joan Stewart is an artist, educator, businesswoman, gardener, and outdoor enthusiast. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Textiles and Clothing from Kent State University with additional studies in education and business from Colorado State University. For the past 50 years, Joan has taught a variety of sewing classes and art techniques while continuing to add additional skilled-based knowledge through college classes, seminars, and workshops.

From the early years of clothing construction, design and quilting, her worked has evolved to abstracting landscapes and florals. The exploration of new and old techniques, paired with a love of nature, guide the emphasis of her art. She explores thread painting, felting, and dying fabrics to create her fiber art. Sharing the methods of textile creation has always been a joy, whether it be with adults and children.  We learn as we teach, and teaching the curious mind inspires the teacher to further creative directions.

For more information, call the Art Center at 641-2916, or visit www.brownwoodart.net or find the Brownwood Art Association on Facebook.
