Janice Ann (Leatherwood) Brown, 76, of Brownwood passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2022. A visitation with the family will be held Sunday, October 30, 2022 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Heartland Funeral Home. The Funeral will be at Calvary Baptist Church, 1719 9th St, Brownwood, TX 76801, Monday, October 31, 2022 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Art Woodcox officiating. Graveside will be held in the Dawson County Cemetery, Lamesa, Texas at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, November 1, 2022.

Jan was born June 27, 1946 in Lamesa, Texas to Custer and Mildred (Lakey) Leatherwood. She attended school in Welch, Texas. Jan worked in the District Clerks office 32 years, 30 of those as the District Clerk of Brown County, a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Brownwood, Texas and the funniest quirky lady you have ever met. Her humor often came unintentional in the way she did things and everyone would bust out laughing. Jan was the one in the family that did goofy things and then would tell on herself. She ran a clean office and wasn’t afraid to make sure people acted accordingly and represented themselves well in the office. Above all, Jan loved her family and the Lord. She was a beacon of kindness to strangers and treated all friends like family. Jan loved to bake and her chocolate cake was the best. In her later years, Jan had dementia, causing her to forget many things and lose touch with close friends, but she would always tell you about God, she never forgot him and even with this awful disease, she remained sweet and kind.

Jan is survived by her daughter, Robyn Williams and husband, Robert of Brownwood; grandson, John Michael Schwab of Abilene, Texas; brother, Dennis Leatherwood and wife Vickie of Lamesa, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Custer & Mildred Leatherwood; sister, Ilene Pinkerton; and brother-in-law, C.M. Pinkerton.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, https://act.alz.org/site/Donation2?df_id=32112&32112.donation=form1

Online condolences can be shared with the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net.
