LUBBOCK – Brownwood’s Sidney Windham came up one place shy of qualifying for the UIL Class 4A cross country state meet, and the Lady Lions finished eighth as a team at the Region I-4A meet Monday at Mae Simmons Park.

Windham finished 25th overall in a time of 12:55.2, but ranked 11th among runners on non-state qualifying teams. The top four teams and top 10 individuals not on those squads advance to state at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock Nov. 4.

Krum’s Bailey Chism claimed the 10th and final spot in a time of 12:54.4. The four qualifying teams for state are Dumas (63 points), Canyon Randall (67), Canyon (75), and Sanger (79).

The Lady Lions garnered 264 points which also left them behind fifth-place Bridgeport (229), sixth-place Andrews (234) and seventh-place Glen Rose (242) – which defeated Brownwood by three points for the District 6-4A championship.

Also competing for the Lady Lions were Kate Tindol (54th, 13:36.2), Braycee Lee (59th, 13:50.9), Kylea Karnes (61st, 13:54.5), Talia Craff (65th, 14:00.8), Miranda Northcutt (68th, 14:06.0), and Alma Bernal (92nd, 14:39.4).

Making their first regional appearance in eight years as a team, the Brownwood Lions placed 20th Monday with 482 points.

Caleb Nelson (34th, 17:43.7) led the charge for the Lions and was five spots back of earning a state berth. Also running for the Lions were Luke Gray (60th, 18:09.), Easton Judkins (116th, 19:34.8), Noah Lambert 128th, 20:03.1), Dayton Zamora (144th, 20:40.8), and Braylon Harvey (157th, 22:16.2).

The four state-qualifying teams on the boys side were Canyon (24 points), Big Spring (71), San Elizario (73) and Sanger (107).
