Joel H. Smith, age 86, of Brownwood went to his Heavenly home on Thursday, October 13, 2022.

Graveside Services with Military Honors for Joel will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at Wolf Valley Cemetery in May with Brian Hall officiating. There is no set visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Joel was born on December 27, 1935, to Joel G. and Eva Mae (Harris) Smith in Brownwood. He was a lifetime resident of Brownwood. After high school, Joel honorably served in United States Navy and then transferred and served in the Air Force.

Joel was a member of Haven of Hope Church. He was a long-haul truck driver for many years. He loved reminiscing about his travels when he drove all over the United States.

Joel is survived by ex-wife and friend, Shirley Smith of Blanket; step-daughter, Pamela Jones of Blanket; step-son, Roy Haire of Abilene; step-grandchildren, Bobbi Armitage, Brooke Haire, and Denise Jones; and step-great-granddaughter, Rayne Fuller-Haire. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Dan Schafer; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joel and Eva Mae Smith; and 2 sisters, Rita Helberg and Elizabeth Schafer.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Haven of Hope Church (2202 W. Center Brownwood, Texas 76801). Online condolences for the family are welcome at www.blaylockfuneralhome.com.
