Lady Dragons, Dragons advance to regional cross country meet

COLEMAN – The Bangs Dragons and Lady Dragons both secured berths in the Region I-2A cross country meet fields on Thursday with their performances at the District 8-2A meet.

Competing against Coleman, Colorado City, Miles, Roscoe and Winters, the Lady Dragons finished second with 49 points, trailing only Roscoe (22). Meanwhile, the Dragons placed third with 58 points, which left them behind only Winters (58) and Miles (53).

The top three teams and top 10 individuals advance to regionals, which will take place Monday, Oct. 24 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

Leading the way for the Lady Dragons were Joey Newton (5th, 14:01.3), Gentry Sheppard (6th, 14:04.5), Dyan McCurdy (12th, 14:15.8), Rylie Guerrero (13th, 14:20.3), Kasey Solis (16th, 14:28.7), Julia Scantling (25th, 15:15.1), and Jensine Stephens (31st, 16:09.6).

The Dragons’ effort was paced by Jayden Gerstenberger (9th, 19:46.1), Noe Martinez (12th, 19:53.3), Rex Guerrero (13th, 20:04), Benjamin Perez (16th, 20:27.1), Weston Scantling (17th, 20:35), Jackson Moore (25th, 21:51.1), and Colton Wagner (26th, 22:14).

The JV Lady Dragons won their draw with 25 points, while Miles came in second with 30 points.

Competing for Bangs were Justice Baker (2nd, 15:38), Keeli Gordon (3rd, 15:50), Kirsten Poling (4th, 16:00), Gabriella Zapata (11th, 18:34) and Julianna Ethridge (12th, 18:42).

Two Dragons ran in the JV boys draw – Austin Loyd (6th, 25:21) and Braxton Womack (7th, 25:49).
