Cross country Lady Lions’ third-place effort at Stephenville leads local contingent

STEPHENVILLE – The Brownwood Lady Lions finished third out of 27 teams at the Stephenville Thrill of the Hill cross country meet Wednesday, highlighting the Brown County contingent of participants.

The Lions placed ninth out of 20 teams in boys action, while the Bangs Lady Dragons finished eighth, the Early Lady Horns came in 13th, the Bangs Dragons placed 18th, and three Early Longhorns competed as well.

The Lady Lions finished with 133 points and faced all their District 6-4A rivals. Glen Rose won the meet with 84 points, while fellow 6-4A competitors included fifth-place Stephenville (172 points), 10th-place Graham (278), and 12th-place Mineral Wells (336).

Kate Tindol paced the Lady Lions with a 16th-place time of 13:01.53 out of 206 runners, followed by Braycee Lee (28th, 13:28.41), Sidney Windham (30th, 13:32.29), Miranda Northcutt (33rd, 13:33.77), Talia Craff (49th, 13:49.2), Alma Bernal (76th, 14:13.34), Arieseli Hernandez (78th, 14:16.95), and Mia Lara (95th, 14:46.36).

For the Bangs Lady Dragons, Joey Newton was 25th in a time of13:25.81 trailed by Rylie Guerrero (44th, 13:44.53), Gentry Sheppard (46th, 13:46.87), Dyan McCurdy (64th, 14:06.65), Jensine Stephens (73rd, 14:10.98), Julia Scantling (125th, 15:21.82), Justice Baker (150th, 16:20.78), Gabby Zapata (159th, 16:50.61), Keeli Gordon (160th, 16:56.29), and Kirsten Poling (163rd, 17:04.64)

Madison Torrez sparked Early with a 14th place effort of 13:00.61 followed by Emma Stegemoller (42nd, 13:42.9), Preslee Richmond (72nd, 14:09.94), Trinity Torrez (100th, 14:49.22), Brooke Miller (129th, 15:31.06), and Gyselle Mariscal (164th, 17:05.71).

The Lions netted 259 points in their ninth place finish and also saw three district foes – second-place Stephenville (98 points), third-place Mineral Wells (121) and 12th-place Graham (295). Gatesville won the meet with 84 points.

Caleb Nelson spearheaded the Lions’ performance in a 10th place time of 17:44.38 trailed by Luke Gray (18th, 18.20.0), Dayton Zamora (67th, 19:47.86), Easton Judkins (76th, 20:00.34), Braylon Harvey (122nd, 21:38.9), and Ty Tindol (139th, 22:55.61).

Bangs garnered 506 points in 18th place behind the efforts of Ben Perez (100th, 20:30.02), Rex Guerrero (118th, 21:09.34), Noe Martinez (120th, 21:19.84), Weston Scantling (124th, 21:44.62), Colton Wagner (130th, 22:05.53), Jackson Moore (141st, 23:06.08), Austin Loyd (152nd, 24:38.89), and Braxton Wommack (158th, 26:22.6).

Running for Early were Aaron Bass (41st, 19:01.94), Calvin Clubb (61st, 19:40.24), and Will Prochaska (71st, 19:54.26).

Brownwood’s next action will be at the District 6-4A meet Thursday, Oct. 13 at Stephenville. Early is set to take part in the District 8-3A meet Wednesday, Oct. 12 in Dublin, while Bangs will compete in the District 6-2A meet Wednesday, Oct. 12 in Coleman.
