The Brown County Commissioners today voted to reinstate the burn ban in the county.  The ban will be for 90 days, unless rescinded early by the Commissioners.  The 90-day ban will last until the end of this year.  Brown County Emergency Coordinator Darrell Johnston reported that three fires broke out in the County this past weekend, one of which covered about six acres.

The drought monitor map displayed nearby shows Brown County to be “D2 Severe Drought” on the intensity scale.  Slightly north and west of Brown County is an area of Extreme Drought.  This map and more information on the drought can be found at:  droughtmonitor.unl.edu.

In other business today:

*** The Commissioners voted to approve requests by County Auditor Jennifer Robison to refinance a capital lease with Texas Bank in the amount of $837,978; and to refinance three County loans (one with Texas Bank and two with Citizens National Bank) totalling $386,970.

*** Discussed repairs that will be performed on the Elections and Treasurer’s Office parking lot on Thursday.  No parking will be allowed on that lot on Thursday.

*** Voted to proclaim October 2 – 8 as “Texas 4-H Week.”

*** Voted to proclaim October 2 – 8 as “Texas Extension Education Association Week.”
